Introducing Ian McCargo

Ian says …

Ian McCargo in suit with red tie and a red Labour rosette

I’m delighted to be your Labour candidate for the city council elections. My family and I know the area well. We live nearby and I worked in Rawdon for over 15 years for a major local employer. My younger children did martial arts lessons in Otley and my daughter started work at Otley Sainsburys.

I’ve been active in the Labour movement for over 20 years. I’m a trustee of a Millennium Green charity and Secretary of Leeds Co-operative Party. I’ve been Chair of Governors at a local school and a Parliamentary candidate.

The local challenges

On the doorstep you’ve told me about local challenges – such as traffic, parking, public transport, housing conditions, including damp, and the lack of provision for young people. If elected as your local councillor I would make sure the Labour-led city council listens – and acts on your concerns.
Send the Tories a message- Enough is enough!
Thanks to the Tories, the whole country is in crisis. Look at the state of our NHS, the energy crisis and the cost of living. Time and again, we see the Tories enrich their friends and fail ordinary people. We can do so much better. The community here in Otley shows how. At the Labour Rooms, we’re proud to have been part of the Otley-wide Warm Spaces scheme.

Labour and the Co-operative party support solidarity in our society, from local challenges, to workers seeking fair pay and conditions, to households struggling with food and heating bills. We CAN find imaginative solutions – which are green, affordable, and fair to everyone, so we can ALL make progress. This is what I want to achieve.
