On March 22nd 2018 there will be a by election for a seat on Otley Town Council representing the West Chevin polling district. Labour’s candidate for the seat is Liz Carr.
Liz has lived in Otley for 30 years. She is married with grown up children who both went to Westgate School and Prince Henry’s. She’s a registered social worker, working part time with children and young people needing care, to make sure they have a voice and are given opportunities to succeed.
Liz is also a Unison member and organiser, helping colleagues with employment issues and negotiating solutions where possible.
If elected, Liz wants to use her professional and organising experience to support local charities and community projects, to help sort out residents’ problems, and to encourage individuals and groups with ideas for new projects or practical action that will benefit West Chevin, and the town as a whole.
“One of the things I’d like to do is support new and established fitness opportunities for everyone in Otley, sporty or not,” said Liz, ”because physical activity for people of all ages makes such a difference to our well being.”
Press Releases Concerning the West Chevin By Election:
The results are in:
- Lib Dem 291
- Labour 221
- Tory 107
- Green 41
Although we’re all obviously disappointed the team ran an excellent, positive, campaign that did see Labour’s share of the vote increase in the ward by 7%. It was great to have Alex Sobel in the area for polling day and a massive thanks to everybody else who helped out along the way.
